藤原 伊織
昭和23(1948)年、大阪府生まれ。東京大学文学部仏文科卒業後、大手広告代理店に勤務の傍ら、執筆活動を始める。昭和60年に「ダックスフントのワープ」で、第9回すばる文学賞を受賞。平成7年には「テロリストのパラソル」で第41回江戸川乱歩賞を受賞。翌年には同作品で第114回直木賞受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

ある意味で、「ビジネス小説」である。
主人公の辰村は、藤原作品の主人公に共通する「美学」を持っている。
それは、過去に生きてしまって、過去にこだわり、それでも今を
シニカルに生きている、ややキザな男だ。
これが鼻につく人は、そもそも藤原伊織の小説は読めない。
ここに、気の強い女性、インテリヤクザなどがからむ。
これまでこのパターンを、藤原伊織は頑なに崩そうとしなかった。
書評などでさんざん叩かれても、どこ吹く風で自分の小説スタイルを変えなかった。

もしかしたらそれが藤原伊織本人の美学だったのかもしれない。
末期癌を宣告されても平然と死ぬのを待ったのも彼の美学だったのか。
もちろん葛藤はあっただろうが、それを表に出さない痩せ我慢だ。

この「シリウスの道」は、主人公辰村はむしろ脇役で、
戸塚英明という若者の「成長物語」だと感じた。
最初はお坊ちゃんだった若者が、ひとりの骨のあるビジネスマンに育っていく、
その過程がむしろメインストーリーだと言ってもいい。
異論はあるかもしれないが、そういう読み方をしてもいいと思う。

最後に――
もう藤原伊織の新しい作品が読めないことは残念でならない。
ワンパターンだ、団塊の郷愁だと揶揄されながら、
我が道を行く作品を書き続けて欲しかった。

2006年度版このミス10 6位。
2005年文春ミステリーベスト10 7位。

大手広告代理店の副部長、辰村がこの作品の主人公である。
25年前の大阪で友人明子のためにおこした事件とそれに関連した脅迫事件を軸に、新規ネット証券会社のCM獲得のための活動、女性上司との恋、新入社員の成長をうまく絡めて、一級の作品に仕上げている。
作者が広告業界出身のせいか、その内幕を読むだけでも十分に楽しめる作品である。一方、作品の前半部分では一般人にはなじみの薄い広告業界用語が登場人物の説明無くぽんぽん使われており、内容をつかむのがすこし難しかった（なぜか作品の途中からこの問題は解消する）
作品のエンディングもありきたりの終わり方でないのがよい。

　大手広告代理店の営業局副部長辰村は、今の仕事を続けることに疑問を感じはじめていた。
　そこへ大手の弱電メーカー大東電気から名指しで競合の申し込みがあり、本来担当していない辰村の営業局が指定されてきた。
　大東電気には辰村が個人的に会いたくない人物がいて、それは、幼い頃の思い出がからんでいる。
　広告代理店の競合の様子にあわせて、主人公の幼い頃の事件が織り込まれ、お話が展開していきます。
　主人公の仕事のさばき方や、部下のやりとり、手腕を発揮する女性上司の様子など、現実味を帯びていて、とても面白く読めます。
