渡辺 守
1950年東京都に生まれる。1978年東京大学大学院農学系研究科博士課程修了。1994年三重大学教育学部教授。2002年筑波大学生物学系教授。現在、筑波大学大学院生命環境科学研究科教授、三重大学名誉教授、農学博士。専門、動物生態学―トンボやチョウの生活史戦略の研究とともに、絶滅危惧種の保全をはじめとする保全生態学的研究を続けている(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

5.0 out of 5 stars タイトルの堅さの割には理解しやすい, 2008/1/19
チョウとトンボを主な対象として、どんなところに生息しているのか、どのくらいの数がいるのか、どのような生き方をしているのかなど、それらの生態の基本となるところをまず述べている。これらの内容はしっかりしていて、チョウ、トンボだけでなく多くの昆虫に通じるものである。大学の生物学科あるいは動物学科に学ぶ学生にとって十分に通用する水準のものである。また、自然環境の保全に関係する学部、学科の学生にとっても理解してほしい内容となっているし、理解できるようにていねいに説明されている。後半は保全について書かれている。この内容は前半の生態学の内容を受けて、保全とはどのようなことであるのかを熱意を込めて書いている。これまで、保全という名のもとに破壊が行われたこともあり、保全にはきちんとした理念と対象種の可能なかぎりの理解が必要であるとしている。保全は簡単なことではなく、綿密なプログラムにもとづいた大変な作業が伴うことを実例をあげて説明している。著者はこの本を学生の教育用というより、現に、ボランティアなどで保全活動を手がけている人たち、アセスメント会社、自治体の担当者、生物を担当する高校の教師などに読んで理解してもらいたかったのではないかと推測する。そうであるなら、タイトルが専門書的で堅かったと思う。内容はそのタイトル通りなので、「いかにしてチョウやトンボを守るか」のようなサブタイトルがあったらよかったのではないかと思った。目次の大見出しにはそのようなサブタイトルがついているのである。
