　1992年にJTB出版局から出た単行本の文庫化。
　紀伊長島、飛島、丹後の間人、伊豆・戸田、琵琶湖の沖島など日本各地（＋α）の漁村を訪れ、魚と戯れた本。地元の漁師に同行して雑魚を獲ったり、食べたりとすごく楽しそう。土地の人だけが食べている魚は、見慣れないけれど、とても味わい深い顔をしている。我々から見るとグロテスクだったり、美味しくなさそうだったりもするが、食べてみたいと思わされた。
　それぞれの章は短く、雑魚の記述も簡単すぎるのが残念。しかし、穏やかな気分になれる本だった。
