何故、なんのために生きているのか？
この問題について、小さい頃からおそらく100回は自問自答していると思う。
本を読んで、人に教えられて疑問が解決するわけではない。結局自分で「ひらめいて」得た答えでなければ自分のなかに根を下ろすことがないから。言葉の根っこの部分まで完全に他人の言葉を理解することなんてできないから。
だから、この本にでてくる問いはとても知りたいことばかりで夢中になって読むことができたのだけど、読み終わった後で「わかった！」「納得できた！」という爽快感を得る事はできなかった。
けれども、本にでてくるフレーズがヒントになって、自分のなかで一歩答えに近づいた、という実感を持つ事ができた。

もう一度読み返せば、またさらに答えに近づくヒントが得られると思う。
そうやって何度も読み返して、自分にしみ込ませたいと思わせる本でした。

「生きている」ということについて、人は誰しも一度は苦悩するのではないかと思います。
私もそうでした。
辛くても生きなければならないことも、安易に死を選んではならないことも皆よく分かっています。しかし、それでも、何で生きているのかという答えの出ない根源的な問題に辿り着かずにはいられない。
この本はそういうことをとても丁寧に、そしてとてもやさしく教えてくれます。そして、生きていることの尊さを再認識させてくれます。

　「自分が自分であること,自分がいまここに生きていること、それを受け容れたい。ただそれだけの欲望」が、次々と生きていることの答えを求めてやまない。ー自分が死ぬとはどういうことか。自分で死を選ぶことができるか。本当の自分を知りたい。また、ときに、神や虚無という「神」に答えを求める。 　庵を訪ねてくる少年に、老子は、自らの、そして、老師の師の<道の人>の言葉を語って、庵を発ち去る。庵の少女に、少年への「生きる意味より死なない工夫だ」との置き土産の一言も残して。
