邦題「追わずにいてくれたら」、原題「目撃者」どちらも内容をよくあらわしたタイトルです。
ヒロイン・ケンドルが交通事故にあい、病院にいるところから物語は始まる。同乗者の女性は死亡。瀕死の重傷を負い、記憶を失った同乗者の男性を「夫」といつわるが・・
ヒロインは何から逃げているのか。何を見てしまったのか。

ヒロインが「見てしまった」シーンを読んでいるときは思わず「アメリカってこわーい」と叫んでしまいました。（行くのは都会だけにしよう・・

ストーリーもぐいぐいと引き付けられ、寝不足になってしまうこと請け合い。しかも、話が終わったと思ったら、まだトリックがしかけられていて、さすがサンドラ、と唸ってしまった。本当に面白いのでどれを買うか迷ったときはこちらをどうぞ。

何不自由なく見えた新婚生活と、事故で記憶を失った同乗者との奇妙な逃避行、
そして彼らを追う者たちの会話とが入れ替わり語られる形式の本作。
この著者にしては比較的ヘビーな内容といえる題材を扱っていて、
ある種クーンツを思わせる緊迫感が漂う中、
主人公ケンドルの親友リキー・スーの人柄とそれにまつわる

サブ・ストーリーが妙にユーモラスで・・・。
これまた、一味違ったサンドラ作品といえそうだが、
読み始めたら止まらなくなるスリルとスピード感はピカイチ。

悲惨な交通事故で奇跡的に助かったケンドルは、事故で記憶を失った同乗者の男を「私の夫です」と説明したにもかかわらず、彼を置いて、３ヶ月の乳児を連れて病院から逃げ出そうとします。
いったい彼女は何から逃げているのか？記憶を失った男は誰なのか？

過去の幸せな結婚生活と、現在の緊迫した逃避行。二つが交互に語られていき、やがてそれが一つにつながる時、恐ろしい秘密が明らかになります。しかし謎はそれだけではありません。一緒に逃亡している男、さらにヒロインまでもが、それぞれ過去に秘密を抱えているのです。

さすがにサンドラ・ブラウン、手に汗握る展開、禁断の恋、個性的なキャラクターなど、最後までたっぷり楽しませてくれます。途中でやめられません、時間がたっぷりある時に読んでください！
