松本 清張
1909‐1992。小倉市(現・北九州市小倉北区)生れ。給仕、印刷工など種々の職を経て朝日新聞西部本社に入社。41歳で懸賞小説に応募、入選した『西郷札』が直木賞候補となり、1953(昭和28)年、『或る「小倉日記」伝』で芥川賞受賞。’58年の『点と線』は推理小説界に“社会派”の新風を生む。生涯を通じて旺盛な創作活動を展開し、その守備範囲は古代から現代まで多岐に亘った(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

ストーリーは他のレビュワーの方が書いている通りで、兄の弁護を引き受けて貰えなかった桐子という女性が、弁護士に復讐するという話。桐子の復讐を受ける大塚弁護士は、最初は悪役（カネの亡者）のように描かれています。ところが、後半になるにつれて彼の人間味が描かれ、読者は彼が普通の人間であることを知ることになります。このことによって作者は、普通の人間が普通に暮らしていても誰かの恨みを買ってしまうことがあることの怖さを見事に描いています。

兄の殺人という冤罪を晴らすべく、
その道で高名な大塚弁護士を頼みに上京する桐子だが、
弁護料の払えぬために断られ、兄は獄中で汚名を着たまま病死する。
桐子は大塚を恨み…。

世の中ほんとに正しいことって、実は無いのかもと思ったりする。
一方にとっては正義でも、
一方にとっては言いがかり以外の何ものでもなかったり、

実生活上ではそういうことが、結構しょっちゅうあるものなのだ。
謎も解けるとは限らないし、
解けたら気分がいいかというとそうとも限らない。

後味が爽快とはいかないが、ひどく考えさせられる作品である。

かくも恐ろしい歳若い女性の復讐劇である。
法曹界に君臨する賢いと思われている男たちを、
これでもかと思うくらいじわじわと追い詰めてゆく。

この女性を演じるとなれば誰がよいだろうかなどと考えながら、
清張作品に登場する女性像の妙に感動するばかりだ。

ミステリの新境地を開拓した本書に影響された作家も多いはず。

本書は清張作品の中でも一二を争う秀逸な出来で、
ストーリー展開や心理描写、
また供述書や鑑識発表を冷静に読み解いてゆく痛快さもある。

ぜひ一読しなければならない作品だ。
