4.0 out of 5 stars シュールな院生のお話, 2008/2/2
世の中で全く役に立たなさそうな学問をしたいという動機で
京都大学大学院に進学する主人公が繰り広げるラブコメ．

なかなかシュールな世界感がツボで笑えました．
院生の多くが夜行性で，夜行性の院生はいろんな意味で変態であり，
それにのみこまれないようとする早起き組が存在するという設定には
異常に現実とフラッシュバックしました(笑)
# 現実はこの漫画ほどひどくはないですが…ちなみに私は早起き組です．

もちろん漫画なのでありえない設定も多々ですが，
それよりも後半はラブコメ色が強くなってきたので，
背景が京大大学院でなくてもいいという展開ならないかが心配です．
個人的には院生の苦悩を題材にした展開を希望します．

森見登美彦、万城目学など京都大学を舞台にした小説が人気を博している中、それに便乗して京都大学大学院を舞台とした漫画なのかなと思いきや、それは違ってました。両作品の京都が持つ幻想的なイメージとは違い、現実的な(実際の京大大学院とは違う点が多々あるのだが)京大大学院生活をが繰り広げられています。この作品の特徴と魅力は、主人公の主観だけで物語が展開していくことです。何処か達観して、ひねくれた主人公の見た世界がこの作品の全てになっています。それ故に他の人物が何を考えているかは詳しくわかりません、主人公がその人物を見て分析して妄想した人物像がメインです。主人公の研究の一環である虫の観察ということが実生活にもリンクしており、他の人々をよく観察しています。その物語の構造が良くできており、非常に面白い内容になっています。しかし京大を舞台にした割りには、京大らしさがあるかというとかなり微妙な内容ですが。今までのよくある熱い青春物語とは違いどこか冷静さがある、魅力的な青春物語です。

裏表紙の絵を見て学生寮の話かと思って手に取りましたが、違っていました。

いわゆる入院を果たした「頭はいいけど、どこにも居場所のないヒネクレ者」たちが
織りなす群像劇、というのを想像していたのですが、中身はわりと普通の「スピリッツ」的
恋愛コメディです。京大大学院という珍しい場所を舞台に選んだところはなかなかと
思うのですが、細部のツメ（こういう作品ではそこがキモ）が甘い。
例えば４７頁。「河原町通り」に昼飯に出るのは、遠すぎてありえません。取材不足。

大学マンガというと私のような８０年代世代は、佐々木倫子の名作『動物のお医者さん』を
思い出します。『動物のお医者さん』は、きっとディープなインフォーマントがいた
はずで、北海道大学獣医学部の研究室の雰囲気をしっかり感じさせていました。
本当じゃないにしても、それらしさやモデルの存在が感じられ、そこがとても魅力的でした。
あれだけの大ヒット作と比べては可哀想かもしれませんが、世にも珍しい
本格京大マンガなのだから、これから頑張って欲しいと思います。本当に。
