3.0 out of 5 stars 確かに「海底二万里」の空中版だが・・・。, 2007/4/21
ページ数が少ない割には、単調な場面が淡々と続く感じがあって、思ったよりは面白くなかった。海底から、空中に変わっただけでほとんど展開が変わらない。完全に、第三者的立場で文章が書かれてるので、自分が物語の登場人物になりきるにはちょっとむずかしいかな。「海底二万里」と同じで、難しい専門用語や、歴史の解説みたいなのが入ってるのも、読むテンションがさがる原因のひとつ。それと、くそまじめでジョークがないな。ジュール・ヴェルヌは市長にもなった人だから頭がいいのは分かるが、そのせいでひとりよがりな文体がたまに見え隠れする時がある。それだけは、かんべん願いたい。一応続編の、「世界の支配者」も読み出したが果たして面白さはどうかな？　あまり難しい文体や説明がなければいいが。

　１９世紀末のアメリカ、フィラデルフィア。気球愛好家の集会に現われた謎の男、ロビ
ュールは満場の気球ファンたちに対し、「空気より軽い飛行機械にもはや未来はない。自
分は空気より重い飛行機械で、すでに大空を征服した」と宣言する。その言葉を信じない
アンクル・プルーデント会長とフィル・エヴァンズ事務長は、その夜、何者かによって拉
致される。警察の必死の捜査も彼らの行方を突き止める事はできなかった――なぜなら、
彼らが連れ去られた先は、法律の届かない大空、すなわちロビュールが指揮する空中船
《あほうどり号》の上だったからだ！　かくして、２人の気球主義者を驚嘆・羨望させ
る、空中世界一周旅行が始まった・・・という話。

　お判りのように、身も蓋もない言い方をすれば、この「征服者ロビュール」は「海底二
万海里」の空中バージョンである。だが単にそれだけかという問いに対して、私は否と言
いたい。この飛翔感、躍動感、スピード感、そして科学と人類と未来に対するオプティミ
スティックな感覚は「海底二万海里」には無いものである。
　ともかく単純に面白い科学冒険小説なのだ。このロマン、大空への純粋なロマンは現代
の読者の心をも沸き立たせることだろう。個人的には「地底旅行」「月世界へ行く」「海
底二万海里」などと比肩しうる、ヴェルヌのマスターピースの１つだと思う。
