連載時のカラー原稿や単行本の表紙などに使われたカラーイラストのほかに、白黒だった原稿に着色したものや描き下ろしも加えた極彩色の蒼天航路絵巻がここに完成！
これ１つで１つの作品と言えます。
大型本のため迫力が違う。コマ割や枠線から解き放たれたイラストは広がりと奥行きを感じさせ、１つの絵を見ているだけでも物語が動き出します。ラストワルツが特に美しい。
また、巻末には作者による小解説が付いています。

見ごたえはあるが、4000円近い値段を考えると微妙。
構図は昔の使い古しなので単行本を買っている人にとっては目新しい絵はほとんどないです。
また、単行本表紙などからの使い回しも目立ち、どうも見ごたえの割りに満足感が無い。
画伝、画集というより名場面集見たいな代物で、もうすこし構図に気を配ってほしかった。

ただ、フルカラーなので、その場面を印象付けるには十分。
蒼天航路が「大好き」ならば買ってもいいかもしれない。「好き」程度の人には、私はお勧めすることは出来ない。

とにかく圧倒される本です。
人間の顔の芳情。手の表情。足の表情。体の表情。
鎧の表情。馬の表情。地面の表情。空の表情。色の表情。
王欣太の描く絵は、どれもこれも表情に満ち満ちています。

少し高価ですが、「蒼天航路」ファンならば、
買わずにはいられない一冊です。


また、王欣太は、私にきわめて特殊な印象を残している人物です。
マンガを描いてはいるが、「漫画家の王欣太氏」というと違和感を感じます。
「イラストレーターの王欣太氏」といっても、やはり違和感を感じます。
だからといって「芸術家の王欣太氏」というのも、やっぱり違和感を感じます。

この本を開いてみれば、やっぱり、マンガでもなければ
絵巻物語でもなく、イラストでもなければアートでもない、とにかく
「蒼天航路の本」としか言いようがありません。

これは、版元も本人も、おそらく自覚している事であって、
だからこそ「画伝」と冠した、ほぼ正方形の本を作ったのでしょう。
王欣太は、ただ一人、王欣太というジャンルであって、他のどこにも
おさまりようがありません。

それは、この本を本棚に納めたときに、より明確に分かるでしょう。
本棚に収まらないんだよなァ〜。
