いい勝負には、相手をお互い認め合う潔さや勝敗を超えた過程の美しさがある。

著者は「勝ちに行く勝負」は欲からくる戦い、「負けない勝負」は本能からくるものだという。
我欲だけでなく他欲もコントロールし、勝つことに満足するのではなく負けても自分との戦いに納得することが「負けない人」だという。

また知識やテクニックに頼らず、感覚で勝負できる柔軟な立ち位置でなければ変化に対応できないという。
それは本性（確証や保証）からでなく、本能で感じて判断する姿勢でもある。
そうなれば無理に答えや結果を求めなくても、チャンスに気づいて自然の流れに身をまかせていける。

著者は和を乱すものには本質的な弱さを悟らせ、汚い手に乗らず、相手の得手を生かすことが己の向上にもつながるという。
この本で自分の勝ちだけを求めるより、「敵も味方」という相手や空間との一体感を楽しみ、勝負の流れを感じとれる大切さを教わった。

内容的には面白いのですが、ほとんどの場合、話が抽象的で、わかりにくい。例えば、ものごとをシンプルに考えていく事が必要だというところで、次のような文章が出てきます。

「雀鬼会でも、私がやるとシンプルなのに、道場生たちにやらせると複雑にしてしまってできない場合がある」

しかし、一体、何をどうやっているのか、に関してまったく言及されていません。これでは、さっぱりわかりません。
たまに出てくる具体例は、野球の話、特にイチロー選手の話ばかり。全体的に、千篇一律という感じで、もう少し、具体的な話を、メリハリをつけて書いてくれたらよいのにと思いました。

麻雀の世界のことだけ書かれているかと思いきや、自分の普段の生活の中でも共感できることが多い内容でした。
著者は会社員として働いたことあるんじゃないの？と思うような、読み手に配慮されている部分が端々に見られました。

欲に駆られた行動はするな、人を思いやれ、人に威張るな、下手な人を見下すな
そういった人間として大切なことを我々に伝えようとしている気がします。

他の方のレビューでありましたが内容が抽象的というのはわざとでしょう。

嫌な相手に合わせてついつい自分も嫌な人間になってしまいがち。
そんなときにこの本を読み返すのがよいかもしれない。
