私がこの本に出会ったのは、大学受験を控えた１８歳の時でした。
何をしたいのか、どうなりたいのか、初めて考えた頃です。
それまでは、今思えば、与えられた人生を歩んでいたと思います。だからこそ、この本を読んで、心がふるえました。

私が満足の行く人生を歩むには、待ってちゃいけないんだ。自分で動かなくちゃ、自分で決めなくちゃ、と初めて気付きました。
与えられるのが当然と思ってしまうほど、全てが満たされている時代に、
自ら動いて道を切り開く事を教えてくれるこの１冊は、私の心の１冊になりました。

いまでも、何かに迷ったり、不安になったりすると、まず手に取る大切な絵本です。

この本を私が初めて読んだのは、アメリカ在住中でした。
自分の将来がハッキリと見えずに、悩んでいた時期でしたが、この本のお陰で前進する決心がつきました。
今回、日本語訳を読んでみたのですが、最後の訳者さんの後書きには同意できなかったものの、やはり作品自体の素晴らしさには変わりありません。
子供から大人まで、色々な意味でとてもためになる本だと思います。

自分にとってのBig Oって誰だろう？
この本を読んだら、誰もがそう考えるのではないでしょうか。

もうBig Oに出会えているのかな、自分の角は大分丸くなっているかな、それともまだ尖ったままなのかな？
こんな風にMissing Pieceに自らをリンクさせ、自分自身を振り返ることで、いい自分もそうでない自分も見つめ直す・・・。この本は、そんなチャンスを私に与えてくれました。

この本に出会ったころ、私は４年付き合った彼との遠距離恋愛が決まり、辛くてたまりませんでした。でもその不安は、彼に依存しきった自分が一人日本に残される事への不安の裏返しでもあったのです。

尖った角は丸くなって、転がれるようになるよと、背中を押すBig Oと、その言葉によって自ら動き出すMissing Piece。本のラストで再び出会ってひとつになる彼らを見て、私もただ彼を待つのではなく、自ら動き出さなくては、と考えるようになりました。今でも離れ離れの生活は続いていますが、再会する時には成長して（丸くなって）いる事を確信しています。

皆さんにとってのBig Oはいますか？もう出会えていますか？
今、悩みで一杯で辛い事だらけでも、誰にでもBigOは存在するのです。
今の自分を見つめなおすのに、絶対にこの本はおすすめです。
