中東戦争史というと、イギリスの三枚舌外交あたりから始まっているものが多い。しかし、この本は紀元前にまでさかのぼり、パレスチナ問題の原点中の原点からアプローチしようとしている点が評価できる。

写真や地図などの資料も豊富。細かい点まで確認しながらパレスチナ問題を知りたい人には最適の本だと言えよう。ただし、やや軍事面に細かすぎるきらいがある。戦いの際の兵器の名前や攻撃の方法についての細かい点は、うるさく感じる人もいるかもしれない。私はそのあたりはざっと目を通すのみにした。

そのようにして読んだ結果、ほかの本ではとばされていてわからなかった点までよく理解できた。

もし突然、日本に「俺たちが2000年前にこの辺に住んでいたのだ。それは
天照大神が決めたのだから正しいのだ。」といって原日本人なる民族が押し寄せて来て、
あなたを追い出したらどうする？
中東戦争のそもそもの原因はこれだ。しかもそれを当時最大の大国の後押しの
下に実施されたうえ、追い出される方にはその大国は別の甘い約束をしていた
という救いがたい状況だった。
日本人は中東戦争に対し、話し合うだの寛容の精神だの譲り合いだので解決
とか言うが、神様が決めたことを人間の話し合いで解決できるはずがない。
中東の現状はそういうことだ。それに冷戦時代に米ソが武器を与えまくり
今でもその供給は絶えていない。これで争いが絶えるわけがない。
そういうことがこのコンパクトな本を読めば大体わかる。
なかなか無い中東戦争を一冊で分かる本として推薦します。

「中東」という地域は私のような日本人にとって程遠い地域だったのですが、近年ここでの情勢は世界中に中継されており、日本も無関心ではいられなくなっています。本書は中東戦争も含めイスラエルの歴史を古代から２００１年に至るまで分かり易く解説。あなたの疑問は必ず解決されるでしょう。
