ユーミンの「目に映るすべてのことはメッセージ」という歌詞をつねづねすごいと感じてきました。この本では、それが文字で表されています。

わたしたちのだれもがひとつの世界と神に通じる大いなる魂を持ち、正しくその声に耳を傾ければ、すべては示されている。ほんとうの自分が何を感じ、どうしたいと願っているのか、それがわかるように心を開き、澄ませていなければならない。「マクトゥーブ（それは書かれている）」が物語に木霊します。

少年とともに宝探しの旅をするうち、砂漠やオアシスや錬金術師（アルケミスト）が自分の心と分かちがたい何かに変わっていきます。夢を追うとはどういうことなのか、ひとつの、かなり明確な答えがこの本の中にあります。

著者の母語であるポルトガル語で読むとどのように言葉が響き合うのか、占いの石、ウリムとトムミムは実在するのか――そんなことを考えてしまうのはわたしだけではないでしょう。

本書用に寄せた著者の前書きは、テーマについて詳しく明確に語っています。まずこの数ページに深く心を動かされたことを付け加えておきます。

読み終わると、とても不思議な感覚とふと世界がいつもと違って見えるような、
そんな小説。
｢前兆｣を感じ取るには、世界を純粋な視点で見続けることと鋭敏に捉える感受性を持っていることが必要であると
私は思いました。
そうすると、この本を読んで世界が変わって見える今なら、もしかして風と太陽と、会話が出来るかもしれない。
出来ればしてみたい。

挿絵もきれいで、あなたをより幻想的な世界へと、夢に溢れた世界へといざなってくれるはず。
あなたのバイブルとなるでしょう。

単行本も文庫版もあるのに、さらに出版された本書。砂漠を旅する羊飼いの少年といっしょに本の世界を旅したあと、今度は自分の人生の旅にでかける人はどれ位いるのでしょう。誰でも、この本を読んで、「人が本当に何かを望む時、全宇宙が協力して、夢を実現するのを助ける。」ことを知ったら、忘れていた自分だけの宝物を探しにいきたくなるのでは？
