口語版「学問のすすめ」です。
こんなに熱い気持ちのこもった本を、私は初めて読んだ気がします。

勉強しろ！自分でやってみろ！何が大事か自分で考えろ！もっと高みを目指せ！
畳み掛けるようにして、私たちの生き方に自覚と変革を求めてきます。
特に、「まじめに働いて、将来のためにちょっとした蓄えをするなんて
蟻でもやってることだ。人間ならもっとすごいことができるだろう」
というあたりは、現状に甘んじようとする私のサボリ心を消し去りました。

読んでいる間じゅう、うれしくてドキドキしていました。
これから高みをめざしてがんばりたい人に最適。

　佐藤きむ氏の口語訳は、敬体で大変に温かみのある分かりやすい文章です。そこが物足りない、という感も確かにあります。でも、多くの人が名著「学問のすすめ」を初編から１７編まで読破することができれば、「ビギナーズ日本の思想」というシリーズとして、ねらいは達成できたと言えるでしょう。巻末の解説もおもしろく読むことができました。
　そこで、お勧めの読書法として、次のような読み進め方はいかがでしょうか。１．まず本書を１編ずつ読む。２．次に、岩波文庫等の「学問のすすめ」を開き、同じ編を福澤諭吉の原文を声に出して読んでみる。
　仲間と音読読書会など開くのもおもしろいかもしれません。明治のはじめに多くの人に読まれた本が、今、読みやすい形で甦り、平成の世の多くの人に読まれることは、素晴らしいことだと思います。

3.0 out of 5 stars 買うときは見落としてしまったが、福沢でなく、福澤, 2007/2/9
内容としては、本のタイトルから出発し、愛国心から子供の躾その他諸々まで、かなり広い範囲に適用できる道徳的教訓が多く、まさに日本人（だけに限定するわけではないが）必読の書だというのが感想。子供に読ませようかと思う方は、初編・二編の計32ページをまず読ませるだけでも価値があるかと思います。それで面白いと思えば自分から読み進めるだろうし。

ただ、現代語訳が全て所謂「ですます」の文体なので、柔和で丁寧なイメージを与える。
個人的には、福澤氏は厳格な性格という印象だったので違和感を覚えた。
さらに文章自体は「〜であると思う」などでなく、断言することが多いので、これと文体のギャップが違和感を大きくしている。
福澤氏の文体が上記のようではしっくりこなそうだ、という方は原書或いは他の訳で読むことを勧めたい。
