昨今はやりのキーワード「モンスターペアレント」に関し、日本では、両親によって教師が追い込まれていく様がセンセーショナルに取り上げられているが、その紹介に止まらず米国での「ヘリコプターペアレント」、英国での「フーリガンペアレント」に関しても、生々しい実態が描かれている。
現在私も教壇に立っている教師の一人だが、モンスターペアレントと日々対決をしており、海外での過激な事例にかなり驚かされた。
本書には対策まで踏み込んで記載されていることから、教育現場必読の書と言えるのではないか。

著者はイギリスでサッチャー改革以後、「キレる」大人が増えていることを指摘。モラルの崩壊が日本だけでなく、グローバル化した社会全体の問題であることを示唆しており、興味深い。また、モンスターペアレントを、単なる「困ったクレーマー」として揶揄する論調が目立つ中で、著者が「もの言う親は、学校と子どものために増えるべき」という姿勢を明確にしている点にも好感が持てる。親にとっても教師にとっても、双方に有益な内容だと思う。

私は教師が保護者を「モンスター」と呼ぶとき、親もまた教師が「モンスター」に見えると考えているので交流を大切にしてきた。
しかし、この本の事例では度を超えたクレームが紹介されている。明日は我が身と言う言葉があるように読んで損は絶対にない本だと確信した。
少子化、晩婚、保護者の高学歴化、格差社会、地域との人間関係の希薄化、夫婦問題etc.保護者の「はけ口の場所」が学校になっているように感じさせられた1冊である。
