英語の学術雑誌に投稿する社会科学・医学分野の人は、これがなければ論文が書けない。いくらいいネタでも、いくら文法が完璧でも、論文のフォーマットが投稿規定に沿っていなければ、レビュアーの心証がかなり悪くなるからだ。

この際、ＡＰＡスタイルの利点・欠点について考えたり述べたりするのは時間の無駄だ。年々ＡＰＡスタイルを踏襲する雑誌は増える一方で、これを買わないと研究が出来ない。

ただ、今までの経緯を見ていると今後も改定されるであろうから、自分で買う必要はなく、所属の図書館に2冊在れば事足りるだろう。

引用の仕方などは例が豊富なので、かなり参考になる。ただ、図や表の書き方に関しては要点のみで実際に論文を書く際には同じ系列のDisplaying Your Findings とPresenting Your Findings: A Practical Guide for Creating Tablesがあったほうがいい。

看護学の学位を取ろうとしている妻がAPAフォーマットと格闘しているのを見て読んでみました．今や心理学だけでなくさまざまな分野で標準とされている論文形式が，微に入り細に入り，手とり足とり説明されている．例が豊富に収録されていることもあり，なんとボリュームは400ページ．ここまで完成度が高いと各分野でのデファクトスタンダードになったのも頷ける．
