既に各所で話題沸騰!Ki/oonが送る、時代を変える女性3Pロックバンド!
ただ好きで普通に生活をしながら音楽を作っていたら、それはとんでもないものだった徳島在住の、女の子3人のロックバンド。その幼気なルックスとは裏腹に、音はオルタナ・ロック。全員女の子で、自分達で作った大きな曲を、きちんと自分達で演奏できる。ありそうでどこにもなかった、誰もできなかった、実は革新的なバンドである。現在まだ徳島在住だが、既にその巨大な可能性が大きな話題を呼び起こしている。早くも8/20『ROCKIN'ON JAPAN』では「数年に一度の新星、登場」と称され、以後毎号掲載とデビュー前から超異例とも言うべき大展開。

「ハナノユメ」という作品は、ポップミュージックの奇跡のような一品。歌と演奏とミックスとが、いずれも緩急のある躍動感・生命感に溢れたものになっていて、実に微妙なバランスで成り立っている、青春の美しさと儚さに溢れた素晴らしい録音に仕上がっている。
新人バンドのデビューの頃しか出せない音にも思えてしまうけれど、こういう音が２１世紀初頭に聞ける幸せを、自分が70年代末〜80年代初頭のパンク〜ニューウェイブ期に興奮し愛していた「若い音」の記憶を重ね、とても親しんで聞いてる。今、この音が鳴って踊るのは若い人たち。その光景も美しく想像するけれど、私（39歳）と同じくらいの年代には、踊らずとも涙する人も多いのでは。

チャットモンチーという不思議な名前のバンドのアルバム。
ソニー系の音楽ダウンロードサイト、MORAのトップページにひょっこりリンクがあったので試聴してみたら一発で気に入った。

女性三人のグループで、作詞作曲も全て彼女達。演奏も三人でこなしている。
曲は全て疾走感があり（テンポの問題ではなく、印象としてね）、言葉を追うとただの青春ソングに聞こえる。
が、ちくりと痛い。
すすきで切られた傷に、後でなってから気がつく感じ。
逆にノスタルジックな曲は、振り返る情景の奥に、しっかりと「今」に立つ視点。

強さと弱さ、悲しさと喜び。過去と未来。
いずれの曲の歌詞もコントラストが鮮烈。

感触としては「椎名林檎」や「JUDY AND MARY」にリンクしそうだが、どちらとも違うのは、歌詞のバランス。あざとすぎることもなく、美しすぎることもない。

しかしその真っ当な言葉の奥には、確固たる意志や深い精神がかいま見える。
言葉は氷山の水面上に過ぎず、それを支える巨大な物が存在する。
多分、きちんと、自分の中から出てきた想いを編んだ言葉なのだろう。

4曲目「惚たる蛍」は懐かしいメロディに優しさと寂しさを託す。
6曲目「サラバ青春」には、吉田拓郎の歌詞を連想するほど、寂寞とした美しさがある。

浮ついた、定型的な、次の展開の読める言葉ではなく、力のある歌詞だ。

誰かに似てる、そう感じ考える。
だけど誰とも似つかない
何故なら彼女らはあまりにも個性的で独創的な歌を唄うからだ。
等身大の曲をそのまま伝えてくる彼女らはすごく共感を持てる。


損はさせません。
チャットモンチーを知るにはまずこの１枚、お手に取ってはいかがだろう？
