But singer Ken Papenfus' vintage voice is the essential ingredient. Raw soul, his classic rock bellowing adds grit to the sleazy grooves and spirit to the gospel ones. Yet he's just as capable of smouldering over the effortlessly summery Bobby-Womack-style soul of "It's You I'm Thinking Of" and the tender "Little Flame". Unlike fellow revivalists Nash, who gave the genre a welcome hip-hop makeover on their equally brilliant debut, The Chancer, Relish have no new tricks up their faded denim sleeves.
