ジョン・ウェットン時代の代表曲が網羅されている上に、オリジナルアルバム未収録曲３曲を収録。でもここまでなら今「ＧＯＬＤ」というアルバムが発売されています。値段もどっこいどっこいなのでそちらをお奨めしますが、このアルバムにはもうひとつ魅力がある。それは１ｓｔアルバルからのシングル曲がシングルバージョンで収録されていることです。マニアの方はそれだけで買いです。

　[3] Sole Survivor (3:40) 及び、[6] Here Comes The Feeling (3:30) に注目。両曲の Album version は「Sole Survivor」(4:48)、「Here Comes The Feeling」(5:43)。そう、これらは Single version なのだ。シングル音源も欲しいなぁ、と思っていた熱心なファンには嬉しい、シングルの復活である。インナーのノーツには、Geffen 時代の歴代シングルが、型番と共に正確に記載されている。B面のレア曲も、「Go」の Remix 以外は、これで全て手に入る。珍しく、良心的な編集盤だと言える。

　ちなみに、「Go」の Remix は、原形を留めないほど大胆にリ・アレンジされた Extended version で、7分以上ある。ファンの熱心なラヴ・コールに応えて？ 「The Definitive Collection」（メタリック緑のジャケ）で目出度く復活したので、そちらも是非どうぞ。

ジョン・ウェットンがヴォーカルだった頃のベスト盤です。
エイジアといえば衝撃的なデビューを飾ったファースト、さらにポップ性に磨きをかけたセカンドが有名で、サードではギターのスティーブ・ハウが抜けたため若干サウンドに変化が起こります。

でも、２代目ギタリストのマンディ・メイヤーにはスティーブ・ハウのような個性はないので、ジェフリー・ダウンズが曲を書き、ジョン・ウェットンが歌えばエイジアになってしまうという事には変わりないようです。
２代目ヴォーカルのジョン・ペインも嫌いではありませんが、やはりエイジアといえばジョン・ウェットンの哀愁を帯びたボーカルです。

このアルバムは、まさにそれを堪能させてくれる誠に贅沢なベスト盤です。
一家に一枚どうぞ。
