悲劇です。原作者にとっても原作のファンにとっても、この英訳で初めて十二国記を読む英語圏の人たちにとっても。 毎年３月に一冊ずつ出版すると決めたなら、それなりの訳者と編集者を数集めるとかしてスケジュール管理しながらきちんと校正まで間に合うように進めて欲しかった。SuzuがいきなりYokoになったり、SuzuがSuzyになってたり、YokoがYokeになってたりするのはまだ許せます。ああ日本語の母音が多い固有名詞に慣れていないんだな、ということでまあ流します。しかしです、いくら時間がなかったからといって、エピソードを丸ごと削るなんて。。。到底納得できません。しかも削られたのはこの物語の中で最も印象的なシーンの一つ、１６章の４節です。原作をお持ちの方はチェックしてみてください。そして想像してみてください、この節が丸ごと抜けた「風の万里 黎明の空」を……。。じわじわ盛り上がっていくクライマックスに向けて、この節がどんなに大きな転換点なのか、訳者、編集者には判らなかったのでしょうか。少なくとも私はこのエピソードを初めて読んだときの興奮を初読から１０年以上経った今でも忘れられません。 これを「原作」として手に取ってしまうであろう英語圏の人たちに伝えたい。本当の原作はもっと面白い。面白いんです！！！ あー泣きたい。やりきれない。。 I wanna tell all people who haven't read the original Japanese book NOT to pick up this book at least until the revised edition comes out. This is NOT what you expect from the anime. THIS ENGLISH-TRANSLATED BOOK LACKS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EPISODES, THAT SHOULD BE IN THE LAST PART OF THE CHAPTER 16. I am soooOOO disappointed with the editors because their works on volume 1 to 3 seemed great. Sorry for my poor English... <2011/09/28追記> 別の方が投稿してくださいましたが、ハードカバー版の発売から8カ月後に出版されたペーパーバック版では、16章で削除されていた部分やその他の目立った誤りが大方修正されているとのことです。米国アマゾンでもちゃんと気づいてる方がレビューしてくださっていて正直ほっとしました。（自分がやればよかったのでしょうが何分英語力に自信なし…。） 次は「図南の翼」ですが、2011年3月には流石に出ませんでした。原作では１巻ですが、何分ぶ厚いですからこの過ちを繰り返さないようにと思ったら時間を掛けるでしょうね。そうであることを願います。 米国アマゾンにも情報が出ていないので、まだしばらく待つことになりそうです。

アメリカのAmazonにはコメントがありました。 拝借してきましたので、参考になるとよいなーと思いました。”TokyoPop's initial hardback print run of this book contained some glaringly intrusive errors: an egregious pronoun slip near the start, several plot-crucial pages completely omitted in the middle, and some mojibake (nonsense characters) in place of kanji toward the end. The hardback also inserted hyphens into almost all numerical compounds-- e.g., "for one-hundred years" instead of "for one hundred years"-- throughout the text. All of the above problems are fixed in this paperback edition, making the actual reading experience much less painful. Hourin is now "she", the missing end of chapter 16 is back in place, and Yoko's name has been restored to actual kanji. The unnecessary numerical hyphens are gone. Some uncorrected errors remain in the paperback, such as occasional spellchecker typos and the pervasive omission of articles before nameless administrative titles (e.g., "Why didn't High Mandarin discover Palace Administrator's plot sooner?"). The "Alms-King" sovereign of Kyou is still incorrectly described as appearing to be twenty years old instead of twelve. The usage of Yoko's alias "Youshi" is still scrambled wrt immediate narrative context. So it's definitely not a perfected edition, but it's better than it was. If you haven't bought either version yet, I must advise buying this one instead of the hardback. In fact, if you already have the hardback, you may want to seriously consider replacing it with this paperback-- at this point, the only reason I'll be opening my hardback is to check the mistakes that were fixed here. ” これが決め手になりペーパーバックをオーダーしました。ハードブックも早く修正されて発売になると良いですね。
