ロック史に残る初期２作から比べると人気の点で陰が薄いが、さりげなく凄まじいアルバムだと思う。曲調はジャケットから連想される通りのもので、全体的にやや暗い曲調が目立つのは確かであるが、その陰りのある切なさを本作では堪能することが出来る。特にアルバム後半の畳み掛けるような盛り上がりは、BOSTONというブランドを抜きにしても特筆に値する。ただし敢えて申せば、幾つかの曲は小品で、ややアルバムの時間が短く、少し物足りない気がする。コンセプトアルバムを聴くように鑑賞したい作品である。

8年に一回の天文ショー”BOSTON”
最初の2作は恐ろしいほどの出来のよさでしたが、このアルバムはその2作の出来のよさをそのままに、新しいBOSTON色に軽くグラデーションをかけたような感じですね。
この”BOSTON”から”Walk On"への進化の過程はまさに正常進化といった感じで、すばらしいの一言に尽きます。
もはやアートというよりは熟練の職人の手によって作られた最高のプロダクツのような気さえしてきます。
必聴の一枚だと思います。（初期の2枚と”Waik On"も忘れずに）

このバンドの中心人物のGtのトム・ショルツという人は
多分音楽史上に残る「凝り性」の持ち主ではないだろうか。
このアルバムは３作目ではあるが、なんとファーストアルバム
から数えて実に１０年目のアルバムである。
ちなみに前作（７８年）から８年の歳月が流れているのである。
んで、この次に出すアルバムも９４年でまた８年も間が
空いてしまういう通常では考えられない事態なのである。
まぁ、当然レコード会社との訴訟問題まで起きているが
（レコード会社が金払ってはよレコード作れって
言ってるのに作業に拘りすぎて延び延びになってしまったので）
それでも、このバンドは、出すアルバムが
ドッカンドッカン売れてしまうのである。
ファーストアルバムに関しては、全世界で１０００万枚売ったし、
次のアルバムも、５００万枚以上、
そして、このアルバムは１５００万枚以上と、
それはそれは、物凄い数字なのだ。
なぜ、ここまで売れるのか？と言うと、
ジャンル的には割りとプログレ系ハードポップなのだが、
ギターは幾つも綿密に重ねられたディスト-ションが
独特の中音域のハーモニーで美しく、歌のメロディラインも
ハイトーンボイスのコーラスが絶妙にマッチしてこれまた美しいし、
曲の構成もトム・ショルツの「凝り性」が唸りを上げて、
我々を宇宙空間に誘うように幻想的で素晴らしい。
ファーストアルバムの1が、このBOSTON＝トム・ショルツ
というバンドを特に象徴している名曲である。
しかし、この３枚目のアルバムは、BOSTONの全４作の中で
一番聞きやすく、すーっと入りこめるのではないか
という事で採用した。
実際、全曲聞き応え十分だし、一曲目から終わりまでの
その展開というか、流れがトム・ショルツの一番の「拘り」だろう。
それと、トム・ショルツはVo以外全て担当しているし、
プロデュースもしている。
それに、自宅に機材全てが揃っているスタジオがあってそこで、
曲作りをしているし、挙句の果てにギター用のエフェクター
まで作ってしまうという、ホントに末恐ろしい
「凝り性」である事がこれでお分かりいただけたであろう。
ちなみに、この人はマサチューセッツ大学工学科卒業の
機械いじりが大好きな人間である事も付け加えておこう。
