Loyal readers, who know the truth that Jennsen seeks, may find this book tedious as they wonder when Lord Richard Rahl and Mother Confessor Kahlan are going to swoop in and save the day. But Goodkind appears to be challenging readers, and perhaps himself, to see the benevolent administration of Richard Rahl from its underside and from an opposition perspective. The change in perspective works up to a point. Goodkind has created a fast-paced adventure story that might be appreciated by diehard fans if they can leave their longing for the status quo at the door. --Jeremy Pugh

Sometimes you need to come at things from a different angle; The Pillars of Creation continues Goodkind's heroic fantasy sequence "The Sword of Truth", but for once his usual hero and heroine are off stage and a new central character takes their place.
Jennsen has grown up in exile and constant flight, haunted by a voice that calls on her to surrender; her mother has clearly not told her the whole story of her birth and ancestry. Suddenly, in a few chapters of tension and action, she finds herself orphaned, the companion of a warrior and on the run from a man who rules the known world. And much of what she knows or thinks she knows is a lie to anyone who has read Goodkind's earlier books; Jennsen's sense of right and wrong is skewed by inadequate information but we go on liking her and caring for her even as she makes alliances with some of the worst things in the world. Meanwhile, the unpleasant murderous Oba makes his own pacts with the darkness and dogs her every step.

６巻が感動的過ぎたので、どういう展開にしても蛇足にしか見えないよな~、
などど余計な心配をしていましたが、グッドカインド氏、やはり只者じゃありません。
あれ？リチャードは？カーランは？などと思う間もなく一気に最後まで。
この先、最後の死闘が展開されるのでしょうか。まだひっぱるのか？

「真実の剣」第７弾である本書の主人公は、ジャンセンという娘。リチャードやカーランが主人公でないことにがっかりしたが、リチャードが完璧すぎる人間に成長し、やや遠い人になってしまった感があったので、親近感のある主人公もいいかと思ったが、グッドカインドにしては、ストーリーがやや単純。おもしろくないというわけではないが、最高傑作とはいえない。先を読みたいのでこの作品もとばせないだろうという感じ。おなじみの面々もちらちらと登場するので、それを励みに読んだ。

I have read the entire Sword of Truth series; it has been a good fantasy. When I finished Faith of the Fallen, I couldn稚 wait to see what happened in Pillars of Creation. I read the new book and was a little disappointed. I was anticipating reading about the trials and adventures of Kalan and Richard, and the circle of friends around them. Instead, we don稚 even get to a scene with Richard until after 500 pages of reading. (Yes, five hundred pages.) By this time, the book is almost over, the scenes with Richard feel rushed, and the next thing you know the book is finished. So you ask what the first 500 pages are about? Not to give anything away, but we are introduced primarily to two main characters that have some type of relation to Richard. The book goes on and on following these two new characters. One I felt was interesting and devious, Oba, the other just too na've and blind to her situation, Jennsen. In fact, Jennsen is so blind to the situation she is in, the reader can稚 tolerate her character. Chapter after chapter I wanted her to wake up and finally put all the clues together to realize she is being manipulated. It was very predictable when Jennsen came to her senses, and by then I was fed up with her. Overall there were some great scenes, an excellent magic fight, and it was an enjoyable read, but I think the book took the reader too far in another direction with the new characters, and not enough time spent interacting with characters from previous books. If you have read all the other SOT痴, then you have to read this one, but it seems like if there is another one in the series to come out, and you skipped Pillars, you probably wouldn稚 be missing anything too important to the main story line.
