山の向こう側に住む子どもたちのために、赤い列車がオモチャや食料を積んで走る。ぬいぐるみ、人形、オモチャや子どもたちが大好きな食べ物は、早く男の子や女の子の笑顔が見たくて仕方がない。ところが、列車は突然動くことができなくなってしまった。「なんとかしなくては」と思ったオモチャたちは、近くを通る機関車などに応援を頼んでみるのだが、断られてばかり。最後にやってきた青い小さな機関車だけは、そんなみんなを放っておけなかった。「自分にはできるんだ」と言い聞かせ、見事、みんなを乗せ列車を引いて、山の向こう側まで走ることができた。
