It's difficult to review a book like this because if it doesn't address your particular problem it will probably get a negative review.
The book basically breaks the swing down in to 3 areas, the take back, impact zone and follow through. Most pros will tell you if you have a proper take back and follow through, most of your swing flaws will go away. This book hits the mark with making sure you are the correct positions in each phase of the swing. For a lot of people, high handicappers or someone who just can't get it, this is very helpful. The drills are simple.
Where it has problems are in the poor layout and editing. As some have mentioned it's long on advertising for their school, and while the stories of famous people are nice, they are sporadically inserted and disrupt the flow of the book. You will have a description of a flaw, then several short chapters with stories, then they go back to describing the flaw, and after another interruption the drills or sequences. It was very annoying and made it difficult to bookmark or study a section as each topic was spread out. They should have described the flaw and the fix or drills, and then have taken a break between topics with stories. Or better yet, keep all the stories to one section.
The pictures should have had more arrows or lines to illustrate exactly what was wrong and what was right. For example the dotted lines on one of the "take away" picture sequences didn't clearly show the club angle or why it was incorrect. The grip picture with the trigger finger never showed the underside and just saying to point the index finger away from the others didn't cut it. It might be obvious to some but, the finger tips all point in the same general direction, its the knuckle to first joint of the index finger that points away.
At times I couldn't see where the errors in the pictures were until after I'd read through the whole section, did some of the drills and then reviewed the incorrect examples again. That made it more more difficult to follow at first.
Amazon didn't have a copy of the book when I ordered so mine took a couple weeks from the UK and looked like a shop copy that had been used - 2nd time Amazon sent a book that wasn't new. There were indentations in it from a large book clip someone had used to keep the book open to two of the drills. It left an impression of the clip and wrinkled a whole section of pages, leaving black marks.
I found the book very useful and thought the concepts and stepping through each flaw was well done. All in all it's one of the better instructional books out there. Not too complicated, and relatively easy to follow and many will see instant improvement. For someone who has struggled with the game and has had many lesson with no real improvement this could be a huge help. I could easily see myself as one of the 9 out of 10 in the examples, and the book has been helpful in those areas. I would definitely buy it again.
To sum it up, great information and instruction that will improve your game, but poorly laid out. Not for someone who already has good swing mechanics. If it wasn't for the frustrating layout and photos needing a bit more detail it would be a five star book.
