I picked this album up without knowing what to expect (I'd never heard of Shingo Suzuki), and am I ever pleasantly surprised!
If you need to apply a genre, I guess you'd say J-Urban (think m-flo, especially in the earlier days); the productions on this disc feature R&B- and funk-inspired electronic tracks and a full crew of guest MCs and singers, some of whom were absolutely outstanding (MOKA ONLY, Marina P, Blanco Nice, and BLU, I'm looking at you). I really dig internationalised hip-hop, and Shingo Suzuki delivers, with English, Japanese, and French flows over tracks that could have come out of New York, London, Paris, or Virginia Beach (think the Neptunes and Timbaland)... or Tokyo, of course.
The Tokyo urban scene is amazing these days, and based on the strength of this album, I'll definitely be scanning the club schedules for Suzuki-san's name in order to see him live.
