1984年に収録された、Jim HallとRon CarterによるVillage Vanguardでのライブ。片方がもう片方のサイドマンという感じではなく、CarterとHallの対等なインタープレイが展開。Hallのギターから美しいメロディーが飛びだし、それにCarterのベースが絶妙に絡みついたり、ベースのゆったりとした流れにリズミックなギターが追従したり、弦編成デュオを堪能できる。ドラムなしでも、まったくリズム的な不足感は感じない。「Alone Together」が特に印象的。

　ロン・カーターとジム・ホールのＤＵＯ３作目。この頃はロンの方が実績があったためクレジットはジムの方が後になっており、どちらかと言えばロン・カーター色が強い。しかし、ジムの凄い所は個人主義のジャズ会において全体のバランスや構成を考えプレイできる所である。その辺りがメセニーなど多くのギタリストからリスペクトを受けている理由の一つであろう。

キャリア十分の名人同士によるライブ録音。ともに弦楽器だとメリハリがつきにくいのではという心配をよそに見事なインタープレイが聴かれる。それもそのはず、彼らはこの録音の11年前にもデュオでアルバムを作り成功している。おそらくお互いの呼吸というものを熟知しているのであろう。それこそがジャズのジャズたるゆえん。正確なスコアやらお決まりのアレンジとはひと味違った心のビートが糸電話のような心憎いコミュニケーションを伝え合うのだ。どちらがリーダーということもなく対等かつ信頼しきった関係がなしうる対話の妙味を味わうべきであろう。それぞれがオリジナルを2曲ずつ出し合い、3曲のスタンダードという曲の構成もバランスよくまとめられている。表題曲Telephoneなどのオリジナルもいいできだが、やはり　Ａｌone Together、Stardustといったおなじみの曲が楽しめるのが嬉しい。
