Erica Sadun holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She has written, co-written, and contributed to almost two dozen books about technology, particularly in the areas of programming, digital video, and digital photography. An unrepentant geek, Sadun has never met a gadget she didn't need. Her checkered past includes run-ins with NeXT, Newton, and a vast myriad of both successful and unsuccessful technologies. When not writing, she and her geek husband parent three adorable geeks-in-training, who regard their parents with restrained bemusement. Eight Ways to Get the Most out of Your Zune, the O'Reilly shortcut, and Modding Mac OS X, also from O'Reilly, are her latest books. She also wrote Taking Your iPhone to the Max.
Steve Sande has been a loyal fan of Apple technology since buying his first Mac in 1984. Originally trained as a civil engineer, Steve's career as an IT professional blossomed in the 1990s. He lives with his wife of 31 years in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Very good iPhone 4 reference all around.

Being a more advanced iPhone user, I found this book to a very good reference. Throughout the chapters, there are useful tips that can point people in the direction of acquiring very useful tools, which can save money, and tips that can save time. One of the area's I found to be most useful was the applications that were recommended for saving your voicemails to your Mac. This is a topic that has come up for me numerous times, but I had never explored solutions. Well thankfully this book just handing me the solution.
For people new to the iPhone, especially the iPhone 4 I would consider this book the lost manual. This book shows you the different built in features, functions, and apps and shows you how to use them. This is very important part of the book, because new users can shy away from trying new things because of fear they may break something. As I stated early the numerous tools referenced in the book will be useful for new users when they truly want to take their iPhone 4 to the Max.
Overall I would say this is book is necessary for iPhone 4 owners. The tips and tricks alone make this book worth it. For new users the entire book is full of useful information on using and configuring you iPhone 4 again making it a must have.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and am glad I did! I've been an iPhone user since it debuted in 2007 and thought I knew it pretty well. However, after perusing this book, my iPhone knowledge has increased significantly.
This is a great book for iPhone beginners as it walks the reader through buying and activating a new phone as well as all the basic functionality the iPhone offers such as syncing music and video, sending email, and browsing the web. But the book also offers quite a bit to the seasoned iPhone user. Codes for checking bill balance, remaining minutes and other phone data you once knew but have forgotten, are at hand. Go take a look at page 192 for "A Dozen Oddball Uses for Your iPhone Camera". My favorite is #6 (grin, you'll have to look in the book). There are tips for using Google Maps and how to use voice control when your hands aren't available for touching the screen, like when you're running or biking.
You can find similar books to this one out there but "Taking Your iPhone 4 to the Max" covers the regular stuff as well as all the new iPhone 4 features like FaceTime and video editing right on your phone. And don't think you need to have an iPhone 4 to benefit from this book, most of what's covered also applies to previous models running the latest system upgrade. This is a great book to have for those times when you ask "How do I ...?" Get it and you'll know!
