データベース情報を基に,動的にPDF帳票を作成,印刷するシステムの構築方法を紹介する。PDF文書の生成には,組版ソフトウエアの「TeX」を使用する。TeXを使う理由は,PDF生成用ライブラリを利用する方法に比べ,文書長の変化に対応しやすい,禁則処理や位置合わせなどTeXの文書整形機能を活用できるといった利点があるためだ。スクリプト言語にはPHPを使っている。本書では,WindowsとLinuxのそれぞれにおいて,必要なソフトウエアの導入法や設定方法を詳しく紹介している。巻末付録として,主なUNIXコマンドやエディタの使い方を掲載している。
