I just got this in the mail yesterday. I have been waiting for this to come out. I normally substitute whole grains and natural sweetners when I am baking so I was really looking foward to this book. While I have yet to make anything from it I did look over almost every recipe.
First things, the book is beautiful and the pictures look delicious. However I didnt see anything I am dying to make. The main reason for that is that I am a cookie fan. I love to bake cookies, espically if they have chocolate in them. This book has only 4 cookie recipes (not counting the 5 breakfast cookies). And out of the 4 only 2 looked like something I would like. I assumed in a dessert book that their would be more cookie recipes. There is plenty of muffin, pie, and cake recipes. This is why I gave it 3 stars. I wanted some healthier cookie options but I didnt find them here.
My other problem with the book is that while the recipes may use natural sweetners they are not low sugar. I noticed several recipes called for 1/2C to 1C of maple or brown rice syrup. These things arent cheap. I use both of these frequently to bake, but rarley use that much, because they are expensive. When I bake I normally cut back the sugar and I was hoping with this book I wouldnt have to.
