The books paired here make up the first collaborative study of 'Modernist' poetry by two of the twentieth century's most important and original poets. In "A Survey of Modernist Poetry", Laura Riding and Robert Graves produce a contemporary reaction to the early experimentation of writers such as Eliot, Pound and E.E.Cummings. Robert Graves Robert von Ranke Graves (1895 - 1985) was the greatest English Lyric poet of the twentieth century. He was also a major novelist, essayist, translator and memoirist. Carcanet publish The Greek Myths, The White Goddess, I, Claudius and other selected and collected writings. Laura Riding (1901 - 1991) is one of the most influential and misread writers of the twentieth century. Her collaborations, notably with Robert Graves and Schuyler B. Jackson, and her own essays, stories and poems are central to the still pending critical debate necessary to the growth of poetry.
