この盤は13~16曲目がボーナストラックとして追加されています。同名盤でも、他のCDを買ってしまうと4曲損をしてしまうのでご注意ください。1~12はにくいギターを聞かせるジミー・レイニーを含むクインテットで、13~16はカルテットです。メンバーも全員(当然ゲッツ以外）違います。こちらは、個人的にドラムがマックス・ローチなのでひいきにしてます。

さて、内容ですが、16曲も入っていることからも想像できるように1曲平均時間は3分前後です。なので、1曲1曲の重さはなく。はじめ聞いたときは、はっきり言ってパッとしないなぁ~、と思いました。それでも、個人的に1,11は「いいねぇ~」などと、うなっていましたが・・・

でも、しばらくして気づいたことは、今日は何を聞こうかなぁ。と思ったときに、何気!なくこのCDに手が伸びるのです。そして、1順しても、また、聞きたくなります。それを繰り返しているうちにそのうちメロディーを口ずさみ始めていました。う~ん、ゲッツさんの吹くメロディーは綺麗だなぁ。

ということで、僕にとってはじっくり聞くタイプのCDではなく、気づくとそこにあるといった、感じです。

ジャズ・テナーといえば、コルトレーンやソニー・ロリンズのような、サブ・トーンの入った渋い音をまず思い浮かべる。ところが、ゲッツのサウンドはむしろクラッシック奏法に近い、芯の詰まった、それでいて実にまろやかなサウンドだ。まろやかなサウンドにもかかわらず、演奏はスリリングで、ぐいぐい引き込まれてしまう。ジャズ・サキソフォーン愛好者なら必ず聴いて欲しい一枚だ。

ゲッツの黄金時代はやはり「ヴァーヴ」レーベル時代だろう。心身ともに充実。力がありながら歌心のある演奏にあふれている。曲は「星影のステラ」「ティス・オータム」「ボディーアンドソウル」など美しい名曲ばかり。後に「ジョルドゥー」という名曲を「フライト・トゥー・デンマーク」に吹き込むデューク・ジョーダンの粋なピアノ、ジェリー・マリガンとの演奏で有名なビル・クロウの端正なベースもいい。ほんとうにゲッツは聴かせ上手だ。「ゲッツ節」全開のアルバム。いつまでも飽きないし、繰り返して聴きたくなる一枚。１９５２年の録音だが、２４ビットのリマスターなので音もいい。（松本敏之）

とか思いつつ聞いてると素敵ですねなかなか。お得ですね~！ジャズ聞きたい方の入門とはいいきれませんが~いきなりハードなロックを聴くよりもこちらのほうがベストです。
