苦節23年、やっと出ました。解散直後に2LP+EPで発表された公式編集盤がついにオリジナルな形でCD化されました。
ジャムの場合、ベスト盤や編集盤がそれこそお手軽に乱発されてきましたが、どれもこれも今回のバージョンのSNAP!の前では裸足で逃げ出します（ただお値段はお手軽盤のほうが安いですが）。内容は他のレビューにありますのでそちらに譲るとして、パッケージング、アートワークがオリジナルLPを尊重しつつ（同一ではありません)とても丁寧で綺麗です。今回初めてCD化された4曲入りLive!EPも83年当時の再現ジャケットに封入されています。と、全体に愛情の感じられる再発なので、ファンの方ならなおさら持っている喜びは大きいかなと思います。これで以前発売された中途半端盤CompactSNAP!は完全に不要となりました！オリジナルアルバム（In the city〜Dig the new breed）7枚＋今回のSnap!でジャムは決まりです。奥の細道へは、Extras, Live Jam, Live at the BBCなどもどうぞ。

ジャム解散直後に出た初の編集盤の完全版。
日本盤も出たLP2枚組みに初版のみライヴEPが付いた全30曲+4曲入りでしたが、
CDでは収録時間の都合上「Compact SNAP!」として20曲入りで発売され、96年のリマスター化でも変わらず。
CD版から漏れたのはオリジナルアルバムで聴ける曲だけですが、ライヴEPの未収録は残念でした。
今回はLPと同じ様に2枚組みに限定版のみライヴEPをCD化したものが付きます。
解散ツアーの音源で、カーティス･メイフィールドとスモール・フェイシスのカバーも収録されています。

正確にはアメリカで2005年初頭に通販のみ特別仕様でCD化されていましたが、待望の一般発売。
アメリカ版は特殊パッケージでしたが今回は通常のプラケースで、ライヴEPは紙ジャケット仕様にして、CDサイズの箱に同梱されています。
どちらかといえば、アメリカ盤の方がオリジナルLPの雰囲気に近いと思いますが、
日本盤が出るなら是非紙ジャケット仕様で再現してもらいたいです。

ジャムの編集盤は多数発売されていますが、公認ベストと呼べるものはこれと「The Sound Of The Jam」だけと言えます。

「Snap!」といえば、The Jam解散時に出たベストですが、今回リマスタリング再発。で、なにが嬉しいかというと、UK初回盤に付いていた「Live! EP」が初ＣＤ化になる事。ホーンなどのサポートが入った、最後期のライブです。「Move On UP」「Get Yourself Together」「The Great Depression」「But I'm Different Now」が、3人のこれ以上ない鉄壁なビートで鳴らされます。まだ聴いた事のない人は、この機会に体験すべき。彼の、現在までも続く熱さがわかるはず。引火必至。
