The Buzzcocks were proud proponents of late-1970s punk rock, with a name designed to shock and song titles like "Oh Shit?" and "Orgasm Addict" (both of which appear on this singles collection) . But in retrospect, it's easier to see what else they accomplished--some of the catchiest, most provocative pop singles ever. Pete Shelley expressed heartbreak and frustration ("Ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with?" goes the catchy chorus on their biggest hit) without falling victim to lovey-dovey clichés. バズコックスは、アルバムのどれか一枚というより、このシングル集が一番いいと思います。突拍子もないピート・シェリーの声が曲にマッチし、良い曲が多いです。1977年のデビューから1981年自動的に解散に追い込まれるまでのシングル集で、1991年以降の再結成後の曲は入っていません。

昔、最初にＣＤ化されたときは１６曲入りだったんですが、これは２４曲入りになっていて、すごくお得になっています。

マンチェスターを代表するパンクバンドのシングル・ベスト盤が本作。
パンクバンドで「愛」を歌った初めてのバンドとしても知られる彼等の音は、荒削りで性急なビートを持ちつつも、愛らしくも可愛らしい、ポップなメロディが、どの曲においても必ずと言っていいほど詰まっており、大変魅力的なものに仕上がっています。

そして正にそのポップな感覚は現在においてもメロディックなパンクバンドにも確実に受け入れられているでしょう。
個人的には、同時代に活躍したピストルズやクラッシュが好きな人が多い一方において、彼等が好きな人が少ないのが寂しいです。
それ故に本作を入門編として、彼等の音に一人でも多くの方に触れていただきたいです。

　バズコックス入門として、レコードの時代から有名なアルバム。
　アルバムの構成は、発表された順に従い、前半がシングルＡ面、それに対応して、後半がシングルＢ面となっている。そして、意外に、Ｂ面（アルバムの後半）に有名な曲（「noise annoys」、「autonomy」等）がある。
　また、オリジナルでは、80年に発表された3枚のシングル（「are everything」、「runnning free」等）は収録されておらず、これらの曲は、入手困難だった。しかし、このＣＤには、このシングルも収録され、充実した内容になっている。
　ただ、どれもがすばらしい曲とはいえないかもしれない。たとえば、Ｂ面（アルバムの後半）の中には、冗長なものがある。それは、当時のニューウェーブ・シーンを反映したものだ。ピート・シェリーのソロに通じる世界だ。
　それにしても、Ａ面（アルバムの前半）の「i dont mind」、「erverybody's happy nowadays」、「harmony in my head」等、面白い曲が多いなあ。
