   アイスランドのバンド、シガー・ロスは21世紀のロックの救世主なのか？ それとも、シルクのローブをまとい厚底ブーツを履いた仰々しい70年代プログレッシブ・ロックの継承者なのか？ 3枚目のアルバム（メジャーレーベルからは初めて）となる本作は、わずかながら両方の面を兼ね備えている。このバンドは前作に引き続き、さまざまなバンドの最も興味深い面を取り混ぜている。U2の賛美歌的要素、Lowの過激なまでのスローコア主義、レディオヘッドのリスナーに向けた意義深いアートを真正直に追求する姿勢、マイ・ブラッディ・ヴァレンタインのギターの質感。その一方で、彼らのサウンドはこの惑星のほかのどんな音楽とも似つかないとも言える。
   本作の全8曲はすべてノンタイトルで、各曲の平均収録時間は8分。弓で弾くギターのうめき声のような音がキーボードの奏でる通奏低音と絡み合って滝のようになだれ落ち、その上に、美しく異星人のようなジョンジーのボーカルが漂う。確かに本作はあっと言わせるほどのアイディアに満ちているが、収録曲の半分はお蔵入りになったおどろおどろしい映画音楽のようだ。けれども、この2本の「ソーセージがキスしている」アルバム（他に本作を何と呼べばいいんだ？）の3曲目、6曲目、8曲目、なかでも4曲目は、うっとりするほど衝撃的で賞賛に値する。無駄な手間暇をかけるのさえやめれば、シガー・ロスは時代を代表するバンドになりえるだろう。（Mike McGonigal, Amazon.com）

やっと辿り着きました。2001年映画『バニラスカイ』のラストシーンで流れるあの夢のような曲を探して…。映画のハイライト曲なのにサントラに入ってないし仕方がないのでそのシーンを何回も見て聴くしかなくて…聴く度に安らかで悲しげなギターノイズにシビれながら…探すのをあきらめかけてました。UNTITLED #4です。

僕はsigur rosをこの作品で初めて知りました。
聴いていると、何だか目に見える風景が違って映ります。
すごく痛くて悲しくて、傷口がどんどん開いていくような音楽。
それでいて究極に美しい。
前作よりさらに肉体的なサウンド表現にウェイトが置かれています。

また、前作で多用されたゴージャスでシンフォニックなアレンジは影を潜め、4人の息遣いがさらに鮮明に感じ取れます。
アルバムを一貫してバンド作品という側面が際立っています。

全8曲、どれもあまりに素晴らしいです。
教会音楽のようなビートレスの1曲目、歌が始まる瞬間。

そしてジョンジーの幾重もの「声の雨」が降ってくるようなエンディングは何度聴いても鳥肌が立ちます。

3曲目のミニマルなピアノリフに重なる唸りのようなジョンジーの轟音ギター、細胞が覚醒していくような感じ。


4曲目も教会音楽を思わせるフレーズやアイディアが随所に散りばめられていて大好きな曲の一つです。

キラキラしたジョンジーのギターリフ、鼓動のようなドラム、彩りを添えるオルガン。
どこをとってもsigur rosです。作品中一番カラフルな瞬間。

そしてやはりラストの8曲目でしょう、物凄いです。
電車で聴いてると音漏れも去ることながら、いてもたってもいられないくらい興奮します（笑）
ドラムがどんどん加速していき、脅迫的な不安感が襲い続けます。

そしてそれがついにピークに達したとき、音のカタストロフィがやってきます。
このドラミングの凄まじさは筆舌に尽くし難い…sigurrosが追求してきた肉体的な表現の極致と言えるんじゃないでしょうか？
作品中たびたび使われるジョンジーのサンプリングされた子供のような声が印象的です。

おそらくAgatis Byrjunほどわかりやすい音楽ではないでしょう。

が、やはりポップセンスの優れた彼ら。
数回聴けば間違いなく虜ですよ。
僕にはAgatis Byrjunと（）の甲乙は付けられません。
どちらも屈指の名盤だと思います。

アルバムとは単なる曲の寄せ集めでないとハッキリ感じる事のできる作品。

冒頭のプラグ・ノイズから一番最後のプラグ・ノイズまでが『(　)』として
くくられた人の一生のように感じる。

この作品のあとにリリースされた『Takk.』をポジティブとするのであれば
今作は完全にネガティブだ。

破滅的で…廃退的で…自虐的で…

しかしそんな世界でこそ際立つ『美』が存在する…
そんな事を認識させてもらえた作品である。
