項目ごと簡潔にまとめられたリファレンス本(副読本などではない)。 リストの扱い方は? 関数の作り方は? などという疑問に対し、手早く知識を得ることができる。

Rの最も有効な使い方は、大量のデータの加工・処理ではないだろうか。
そのような用途にRを用いる際、本書は役に立つと思う。

5.0 out of 5 stars Rを使用するときに机の上に置いて参考にするとよい, 2008/11/16
Rを使用するときに必要なちょっとした関数を探すのに最適です。例えば、ベクトルの長さを知りたい時、データ内のIDに重複がありIDがいくつあるのか知りたいとき、などです。
配列、行列、データフレーム、文字列などの操作についての説明は豊富ですが、統計解析に関係する関数については載っていませんので注意してください。

4.0 out of 5 stars Tips集ですね, 2009/6/29
「マニュアル」と銘打っていますが、これだけ読んでもRのプログラミングはできません。既にある程度書けるようになっている人が対象です。

RはSchemeの一種であり、言語としての純度はかなり高く一貫しているように見えます。しかし、Schemeがリスト処理を基本にしている一方、Rのもっとも基本的なデータ型がベクトルであることから若干判りづらい部分があり、さらに各種の笛太鼓と組込関数があまりにも大量に導入されているため、「こういう処理をしたいんだけど、for文でぶいぶい回すのは変だよなあ、じゃあどう書いたっけ」的なところが出てきます。

こういった、アルゴリズムとプログラミングの間の、Tipsに当たる部分を上手に埋めてくれるのがこの本です。他の出版社なら「禁断の秘技」とでも名付けそう。索引的にひくもよし、ながら読みするもよし、書物という型式であることを考えるとまあ適当な価格ではないかと。
