若い一人のアメリカ人女性がどのようにうつ病と闘い、苦しみの中で「プロザック」という抗鬱剤と出会い安定した生活を送るようになったかが赤裸々に綴られている。その記述は生々しく時に恐ろしい。でも注目したいのが、著者の洞察力。うつ病に苦しみながらも自分の置かれている状況を客観視し、「プロザック」が幅広く処方されているアメリカ社会の現状を問題視している。ジャーナリストでもあるという彼女の文章は非常に説得力があり、読んでいておもしろかった。

鬱病患者の感じるままを表現した作品です。後半はアメリカの抗鬱剤事情も書かれており大変興味深いものでした。カバーは音楽系の本のようですが、著者は文章表現が うまく、読んでる自分も暗くなるほど辛辣に書かれています。心の病にたずさわる人、医療関係者におすすめです。

鬱病である著者が主観的にひたすら自分の鬱病について綴る、鬱病患者による鬱病がテーマのmemoir。
sympathetic（同情的・共感的）に読むと、どんどん鬱な世界に引きずり込まれてどこまでも落ち込みそうになるし、critical（批判的）に読むと、どこまでも腹が立つし。なかなか読み込み具合の匙加減が難しい本だけど、「鬱病って、本人はどういう風に感じてるのかな」と鬱病に興味をお持ちの方にはお勧め。ただただ鬱な感じなので、読むのが辛くなるのと、単調なのとで星二つですが、鬱病患者や鬱病患者の気持ちを知りたい人には珠玉の一冊なのではないでしょうか？
英語は非常に読みやすい。
