DirectShow の情報は、日本語で質のいいのが本当に少ない。仕方なく英文のをウェブで検索するが、今度は目的にピッタリはまる情報を洗い出すのに本当に苦労する。
この本はMicrosoftの開発者が書いたというだけあって、索引(INDEX)が充実しているし、本書後半の実践編では、プログラムコードが紙面の1/3~1/4を占めていて、実際に DirectShow を一から触るときの参考書として多いに役立つと思う。
ただ、Windows画像処理で困る人が多い「ビデオストリームから静止画を取り込みビットマップとして保存する方法」は、残念ながらほとんど書かれていないので注意。

内容はＳＤＫヘルプと殆ど変わらないですし、載っているサンプルプログラムもＳＤＫのサンプルと変わらないので、今までＳＤＫのヘルプとサンプルを参照されて開発してこられた方には意味無いかもしれません。
ただ、目次が整理されており、サンプルも適所に掲載されているので初心者用にはお勧めです。（英語が苦にならなければ！）

本当に数少ないDirectShowの専門書です。Microsoft Pressです。
ですので、基本的に応用的な使い方を参考にしたい人にはあまり役に立ちません。
DirectShowを一から知りたい人向けの書籍といえます。
むしろ、応用編の本は存在していないかも知れませんが…
今のところ、対応する日本語の訳本は出ていません。
