この本の初版を書かれたW.Osler先生の伝記や講演集を図書館で読んだのがきっかけで、まだ基礎医学講義の最中にこの本を購入した。他の内科書と比べて優れているのは、より臨床的といえる点であろう。臨床で必要な考え方のみを語ってくれるので、試験対策にはぜんぜん使えない(でもポリクリには他書より使えた)。同じ理由で、調べ物にもぜんぜん使えない(明らかに通読用)。疾患単位ごとの章立てではなく、`臨床で出会う状況`ごとに章立てがされている(必ず症候別でもない)点も斬新である。通読して始めてなぜこのような章立てになっているのかじわじわ分かってくる。こんなに洗練された本なのにいつまで経ってもなぜ改訂版がでないんだろうと思う。内容的には5点だけど、古いことと改訂版への期待から3点。
