I bought this notebook to replace a 99 cent pocket folder because I wanted something more substantial and professional. I like the expandability and the separate compartments to keep papers sorted. I also like the clean, minimal design, consistent with Moleskine's other products.
Here's what could be better:
I would prefer magnets over the elastic band closure. For something this size, I doubt the thin elastic is going to hold up.
I wish they made an American version. The A4 is 3/4 inch too long, barely fits in my laptop case, and I predict that the tight fit will cause the corners of the folio to get beat up.
The hinges at the spine could be more flexible. It's awkward that the cover only opens 180 degrees and doesn't fold back completely.
On the one hand the folio is appealing because it's substantial and constructed from good materials. On the other hand, it's a bit heavy.
I would buy it again, but I will keep hunting for the perfect pocket folio.
Two weeks later:
I like this folio better now. The elastic is probably fine and stretches as the folders expand. Also, the cover has loosened up and opens a full 360 degrees, making it possible to fold the cover over while filing papers. I still wish it was sized specifically for 8 1/2 x 11 paper, though.
