内容説明
Why is Vilakazi regarded to be the most successful of modern Zulu poets? That is the question the author answers in The Poetry of B.W. Vilakazi, a pioneering work on modern Zulu poetry. In the first chapter biographical notes are given on the poet. In the chapter on formative influences the author pays attention to the way the poet synthesises different styles of poetry into a new mode. The many themes in Vilakazi's poetry are discussed as well as his use of imagery, form, refrains, rhyme and rhythm. The Poetry of B.W. Vilakazi is a major contribution to literary criticism of Southern African languages.
