A Rehash of Existing Paypal Docs 2011/4/11

PayPal APIs: Up and Running: A Developer's Guide

I bought this book in order to learn how to integrate Paypal Express Checkout... but what a disappointment. There's no real world example. Heck, there's not even an example showing how to use the API for a simple, digital goods checkout.

Most of the information in this book was simply taken from the Paypal docs with little to no modifications. In fact, even the Paypal developer site has some real world examples and tutorials which this book is devoid of.

What a waste of time and money.

PayPal APIs: Up and Running By Michael Balderas 2011/3/14
By Moshe Eshel - (Amazon.com)

In short a book you can take out of your wishlists, no value for your money, all the data is available in at least the same level or better for free on the PayPal developer website.

I had some expectations when I downloaded this book, for a long time I have wanted to do a small PayPal integration project, just to flex my eCommerce muscles, I thought doing it on such an important platform would be a great experience, and so I was very happy to see this book on the list.

However, reading the book, I found little information of interest about the different APIs available, and hardly any information that explains the logic and the options of the PayPal API. it is mostly a LOT of source code which does the same thing again and again, with no added value per example. Not enlightening, no special tips or gotchas - just function by function rundown of the API (what you could get by reading the attached documentation from the Developer site).

I expected a lot more, more about eCommerce, more about security, more about integration with a working site (which the book mentions but never gets around to showing).

Do not waste your money.

PayPal Technical Documentation Packaged as a Book 2011/9/29
By Mike - (Amazon.com)
形式:ペーパーバック
I was pretty disappointed by this book. I read it after looking over the PayPal technical documentation and wanting to see an example of a simple, end to end implementation of a PayPal checkout with explanations, but this book does not provide that. This book is basically a partial reproduction of the official PayPal API documentation. There are several sequences of pages that are verbatim copy/pastes from the PayPal API documentation with no additional explanation from the author. The code that is original is sloppy and contains obvious programming errors.

Save your time and money and just go directly to the PayPal developer documentation.
