1stはＸ直系のメロディアスでメタリックな作風の曲が多かったが、この作品で彼はそのとんでもない個性を剥き出しにした。

彼の死後、メディアはその死を美化して取り上げた。確かにhideは人間性も素晴らしく僕もそこから好きになったのだが、それ以上に彼はアーティストとして類稀なるセンスの持ち主であったということがあまり知られないまま終わってしまったような気がする、この邦楽界の中でも規格外といえる程の個性が。

どこかメジャー感のあるJa Zooに収録されている曲に比べ、このPSYENCEはあくまでチャレンジャーのような挑戦的かつ野蛮なものが多い。歪みきったラヴソング「限界破裂」を筆頭に、過激さではzilchに勝るとも劣らない迫力を持っている。にも関わらず、ヘヴィさよりもポップさが際立っているのが彼の作曲センスの凄さだ。ヴォーカリストとしてもその特徴的な声が、曲に実に良くマッチしている。文句なくカッコイイ。

すでに究極の完成度を誇る名盤。hideのいなくなった今、その存在の
大きさは年々増しているばかり。やはり特筆すべきはそのポップ・センス
だと思う。どんな曲でも、メロディラインはポップ。
だから、いわゆるデス声（hide曰く「ミンミン声」）で歌う「DAMAGE」、
「BACTERIA」も素直に耳に入ってくる。ただ叫べばいいって
ものではない。あくまで「音楽」であるのだから。
人の心に伝わりやすく味付けするセンスは、もはやhideしか持ち得ないもの
だと思う。また、どの曲もギターソロが素晴らしい。
これはロック好きはマストアイテムでしょう。

ＨＩＤＥのソロ第２作。曲は第１作の"Hide Your Face"よりポップでメロディアス。ＰＳＹＥＮＣＥ製作までにビートルズに影響されたZeppet Storeを発掘、レモネードレーベルを立ち上げ、このＰＳＹＥＮＣＥにも彼らのサウンド・歌詞に影響されたと思われる曲、Flame, Misery, Good Byeを作曲、ＰＯＰＳ路線での新境地を開いている。その一方でポップ・ロックとハード・ロックの融合を試みはじめ、ＰＯＳＥ、限界破裂、バクテリア、では鋭くＰＵＮＫな歌詞、タイトなサウンドを披露。シングルカットされたユーモラスな"Beauty & Stupid"ほかはもちろんのこと、ＨＩＤＥのコミカルで遊び心に満ちたラッシー・・粒ぞろいの曲の合間に絶妙のカフェを演出する小曲・・。見逃せない1作。
