As the author of the Oxford Picture Dictionary, I'm not exactly an objective source for a review. ;-) However, there is something I want to set straight about this book: Jane Spigarelli is the author. Marjorie Fuchs, the author of the wonderful High-Beginning and Low-Intermediate workbooks did not work on this title, and neither did I nor Norma Shapiro (the authors of the OPD). The credit for this much needed workbook goes solely to Jane. She did a fabulous job of identifying the most essential words on each page of the OPD and then provided determination, mnemonic and cognitive practice strategies for that set of words. By reducing the vocabulary load for the low-beginning learner, Jane has made it possible for teachers of low-beginning and multilevel classes to use the OPD with great success.
