D reissue of the 1972 album by this super group featuring Vanilla Fudges rhythm section (Tim Bogert on bass and Carmen Appice on drums) plus vocalist Peter French, keyboardist Duane Hitchings and guitarist Werner Fritzsching. Reaching #162 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, Ot N Sweaty was the fourth and final Cactus release until the bands reunion in 2006.

７２年発表、カクタスの４thアルバム『汗と熱気』。
このアルバムを最後にボガートとアピスがベック・ボガート＆アピスを結成してしまうので、実質ラスト・アルバムと言える作品ですが、
内容的には最高傑作と呼ぶに相応しい名盤です。Ａ面３曲がプエルトリコ・ポップ・フェスティバルでのライヴ、Ｂ面５曲がスタジオ収録。

Ａ面のライヴはどれも軽快かつハードなブギー・スタイル。
Ｂ面は、ベースとギターの音がぶつかり合うへヴィーなハードロック・ナンバー「バッド・スタッフ」。
ボガートとアピスのコーラスが美しいブルージーなナンバー「堕落させないで」。
ギターの切れのあるカッティングがカッコイイ「ベッドルーム・マズルカ」。
キーボードの荘厳なイントロから始まり、ポップなリズム感が楽しい「教えてあげる」。
最後は遊び心満載の30秒ほどのアカペラ「アーチの下で」。

アメリカン・ロックらしい豪快でストレートなサウンドと、イギリス勢にも引けを取らない最強リズム隊から成る迫力のアメリカン・ハード・ロック。
リード・ギターならぬ“リード・ベース”とも言うべきティム・ボガートのうねり狂うベースと
ツェッペリンのジョン・ボーナムにも勝るとも劣らないカーマイン・アピスの重量ドラムがやはりメインですが、
ピーター・フレンチのへヴィでドスの利いたボーカルもそれに劣らない迫力があります。

今回の紙ジャケ盤が初の国内盤だということに驚きを感じるほどの名作アルバムです。
ちなみに紙ジャケはＡ式見開きジャケット。ＬＰ風の黒いレーベル面もソソるものがあります。
値段はやや高めですが、音源が2006年の最新マスターなのでオススメです。

ベック・ボガート＆アピスのボガートとアピスがバニラ・ファッジ解散後、ジェフ・ベックと組むまでの間に活動していたバンドの４ｔｈアルバムです。このアルバムを含んで４枚のアルバムにボガートとアピスは在籍しています。
１~３曲目までがライブ演奏で、当時一緒にツアーしていたフェイセスの影響からか、ハードなブギで固められています。
４~８曲目までがスタジオ録音ですが、アルバムを出すたびに楽曲と演奏の充実度が上がっているので好感が持てます。
このアルバムではオリジナルメンバーのラスティ・デイ（Vo)とジム・マッカーティ（G)が脱退しており、交代して元アトミック・ルースターのピーター・フレンチ（Vo)とセッションプレイヤーのワーナー・フリッツシングス（G）デュアン・ハッチングス（Key)が参加しています。
前作（リストリクションズ）も整合性が高く、迫力の有るサウンドで充実していましたが、キーボードプレイヤーが追加されたことにより音の厚みと楽曲の幅が増して、さらに充実度の高いアルバムとなっています。
つぶれた声で搾り出すように歌うボーカルと、艶やかで音の立ち上がりが鋭角的な弾き方がレスリー・ウェストを彷彿とさせるギターと、要所で音の隙間を埋めるキーボードがこのアルバムを魅力的にしています。
バニラ・ファッジとアトミック・ルースターを結合したような超ヘビーな４曲目ほか迫力のある演奏を楽しめます。

Atlantic の 50 周年でリリースされたシリーズの１枚、独製デジパックです。ただ、裏ジャケ画像や内側の画像が無いのは残念です。なお、当時のタイトルは「汗と熱気」でした。
[1]~[3] は '72 のライヴで、ボーカルとギターはオリジナルと代わってますが、吠えまくり弾きまくりです。前作からのキーボードの人はリズム中心で、ちょっとかわいそうです。
曲はノリの良い R&R~ハードブギ調で、全編ライヴでやってくれれば良かったのに、と思います。

[4]~[8] はスタジオテイクです。1st~3rd よりブルース臭が減って音が軽くなってます。
その中でもヘヴィな [4] は、ちょっと声を搾り出しすぎ（塩辛ボイス？）な感はありますが、リフがかっこ良いです。[5] はちょっと異質なソウルフルな曲です。
ファンキーな [6] も後半のブレイクの部分がかっこ良いですが、[4] くらい重たくてもよかったのにと思います。
ハードブギの [7] は"ちょっと泣き"のギターが中心の曲で、こういった曲調も◎です。盛り上がる部分が短いのが残念。

[1] は 1st にスタジオテイクがあり、こちらも緊張感があって◎です。入手可能なベスト盤 Cactology にも収録されていますので、どうぞ。
