この本は、ドイツのゴッティンゲン大学のTietze研究室のメンバー達が、日頃行われているセミナーを基にして書いたものです。
形式的には天然物の全合成の論文を虫食いにした演習問題で、一つ一つの反応が丁寧に説明されています。
従って、単に演習書として使うだけでなく、論文を読む時の辞書代わりとしても使えます。

全合成の各反応を問題形式として取り上げており、各問題にヒントを与えてくれているのが良いです。また、解説が充実しているので、周辺の知識も得る事ができます。全合成に携わる携わらないに関わらず、有機合成化学者として幅広い知識をつける事を考えるなら、上下巻あわせて、しっかり勉強する事をおすすめします。

非常に有用、有名な反応やマニアックな反応、これらがうまく組み合わさっていると思います。合成計画など非常に参考になります。その名の通り、有機系のワークブックとして重宝しています。
残念ながらいくつか間違い（誤植）があります。（そのため☆は3つにしました。）
一部（確認できただけで、4箇所)参考文献の年号、巻数、ページいずれかが間違っているものがある。
一部の表現がドイツ語のまま。
略語にも2,3個間違いがある。(LUMO etc.)
修正を要求しようにも、おそらく絶版なので難しいでしょう。
