4.0 out of 5 stars 今、もっとも注目されるOpenPNEの唯一の解説書, 2006/10/7
　OpenPNEは、mixiに代表されるSNSサイトを構築することができるオープンソースソフトウェアです。開発者自身が言っている通り、mixiを参考に開発されているので、mixiに非常に似た機能が実装されています。また、OpenPNEにより構築されたSNSサイトも多数存在しており、So-net SNSなんかもOpenPNEが利用されています。

　本書は、そんなOpenPNEの初の解説書です。内容としてはサイト構築のための技術解説書というよりは、SNSというサービスを構築に視点が置かれており、「はじめに」にもあるように技術的なことは知らない人を想定しているようです。そのため、ホスティングサービスの申込方法や、圧縮ソフトの解凍方法まで記述されていたりします。ただし、そこまで技術に疎い人が本書を読みこなしてSNSサイトを構築、運営できるかは少し疑問で、むしろ、とりあえずOpenPNEをインストールしてみた、So-net SNSのようなサービスでSNSを構築してみた、といった人がカスタマイズ方法等を調べるという使い方に向いているように思われますが、そうすると初心者向けの説明が多すぎる感じがします。

　ただ、今非常に注目されるOpenPNEの唯一の解説書なので、OpenPNEに興味がある人にお勧めです。

Webサイトの運営経験や製作経験が浅いド素人にはうってつけ。
それ以上の情報は望めませんでした。
インストールや管理画面の操作なども「知ってるよ」と言いたくなるようなことばかり羅列してありますので、普通に公式マニュアル読んだほうが早いです。

・サーバ契約の説明（特定のサーバ会社のウェブサイトの操作方法）
・FTPクライアントの操作方法
・解凍ソフトやテキストエディタのダウンロード方法、解凍方法

など、不要な説明が多い。
ファイルのダウンロードからして、Windowsダイアログの画像つきで「ここをクリック」などと事細かく解説していて、多くのページを割いている。
肝心のOpenPNEの説明も、管理画面を見ればおおよそ見当がつくような事柄を細かく説明している。
CGI設置経験者やプログラミング経験者にとっては、公式サイトのセットアップガイドを参考にすれば本書は必要ない。
ウェブサイトを作ったことが無い人が、いきなりSNSを立ち上げようとする場合にのみ、有効な本。
