これまで、CDで復刻されていないキャロル・キングのアルバムは、1982年発売のこのOne To Oneも含めて4枚ありました。でも他の70年代後半Capitol時代の3枚はTime Gone Byとしてコンピレーション化された後、Pearlsと2in1仕様になって入手できますので、ある程度聴くことができたわけです。つまり、このアルバムの曲だけ全くディジタル化されていませんでした。そういった意味でアナログからのダビングを聞きながら長年待ち望んでいたファンとしては感無量です。LPに入っていた歌詞カードは入っていませんが国内盤が出るまで待つ必要はないでしょう。なぜなら、公式サイト等から全曲の歌詞はダウンロードできるはずだからです。
内容ですが、今まで復刻されなかった本当の理由は存じませんが、決して「駄作だから」というわけではないと思います。それは自分の耳で確かめるしかありませんが。彼女の場合必ずTapestryと比べられるので不幸ですよね。このCDを相対評価するとTapestryが5なら4かもしれません。しかし、この30年間の全アーティストの全アルバムで考えれば、4.5(四捨五入で5)は行くと思います。次作のSpeeding Timeではかなりシンセが入ってきますが、ここではかなりアクースティックなOde時代に近いサウンドが聞かれます。彼女の場合どのアルバムでもそうですが常に全力投球で、捨て曲はありません。一般の評価はそうでもないのでしょうが、私にはMusicやThoroughbred程度のインパクトは感じるアルバムに思えます。それでも時代でしょうか、本アルバムはさほど注目されることなく、次作で方向を変えるわけです。70年代後半から80年代前半は多くのSSWが苦戦していましたね。元々夫のGerry Goffinが2曲(#4,#9)の詞でサポートし、元夫Charles Larkeyが全曲をBassでサポートしています。#6では両娘(LouiseとSherry)がバックボーカルに参加し、さらに、#9ではLouiseが一部リードボーカルもとっています。その他、3人ギタリストDanny Korchmar(#2)、Robert McEntee(#5,#8)、Eric Johnson(#5)のソロを含むサポートといい、いつものキャロルがそこにいます。
ファンとしてあと望むことは、Captol時代の3枚(Simple Things, Welcome Home, Touch The Sky)の完全復刻なのですが、本人が望んでないのだろうか？

エリック・ジョンソンがクレジットされていて期待したが、サイドマンに徹しています。ソロも曲調に合わせています。なので、EJのプレイに期待するべからず。肝心のキャロル・キングだが、キング節全開です。リズムアレンジなんかは70年代と変化は感じないけれど、ベースがチョッパーをしていたり、キーボードのサウンドが80年代を感じさせます。70年代のフェンダー・ローズのサウンドは普遍性を獲得しましたが、80年代の楽器は時代を感じさせます。黄金期がある人って、峠を過ぎると聴くほうの感情も微妙です。
