A Larger, Color Version of Your Manual

This book bills itself as "The Expanded Guide," and as long as you define "expanded" as "the manual that came with your camera, but with larger print and color photographs," you'll be satisfied with what it has to offer. Seemingly targeted at novices who want a somewhat clearer explanation of the basics than what Nikon's own manual provides, it does make you wonder if there's really a need for a newbie guide to Nikon's most expensive and professional DSLRs. While this book clearly explains how to operate the controls on the D3 and D3x, there is very little depth beyond that. In short, if you're new to Nikon, or if you bought a D3 or D3x as your first DSLR.... or, if you just want a more user-friendly version of the camera manual... then you may find enough here to justify the discounted purchase price on Amazon. Others should look for a different guidebook.

The book that sould have come with the camera body

This little expanded guide should be packed with each and every Nikon D3X. For $8,200.00, you would imagine more than the paperback of technobabble provided. This little book is IT! It contains useful info that can be transferred to the the camera's settings the very first day AND you'll understand why you made them! A bonus that should b e in everyone's bag. It has a permanent in this shooter's bag, and although I don't have to refer to it often, I know it's there!

The above statement applies to to not only my D3X camera but also to this
incredibly useful guide, which has helped me to learn the camera's features.
I have read many instruction manuals and invariably get bored and confused
before I have really learned too much, then have then muddled through and
not really used the camera to it full extent. This Expanded Guide is written
by a Nikon expert and the book clarifies the functions of both the D3 and
the D3x, including getting the right exposure, technical tips, lenses and
lighting.
When I am out photographing with my D3X I wouldn't be without this amazingly
useful book, as it helps me to take better photos.
