Fellini left the poor and the working class to revel in the decadence of Rome's high society for his next film, La Dolce Vita, a film that could have sprung from Cabiria's hilarious chance interlude with a matinee idol (played by Amedeo Nazzari). Rambling and leisurely paced, Nights of Cabiria is a sweet film of warmth and simple grace. The new Director's Cut restores a scene missing for over 40 years, the legendary "man with a sack" sequence in which Cabiria follows around a man dispensing food to the homeless and glimpses her possible fate when she meets a retired prostitute turned destitute beggar. This edition also features a 40-minute interview with former Fellini assistant Dominique Delouche, whose anecdotes and remembrances help bring the legendary director briefly back to life.
