Haynes New Beetle Repair Manual

Fairly comprenhensive with basic procedures. The manual is very easy to read and follow. However, a bit generic to enable percise electrical troubleshooting as the diagrams are not TDI specific and therefore are inaccurate. This results in missed opportunities to complete repairs to the electrical systems of the TDI models.

Like most Haynes manuals

A pretty great general understanding is available in this book. However, some of the nitty gritty details that one at times requires to know are simply not there. I once heard the saying "its enough to get you into trouble, but not enough to get you out," and I feel that for serious jobs, thats the case with this book. Still so much knowledge for such a good price gives it 4 stars in my book.

Bentley is better

If you want more than the routine maintenance items, get the Bentley. The MK4 chassis and engines have some quirks that are not covered in the Haynes manual, like how to get a stubborn, rusted strut out of the car or all of the VAG codes
